Passport to Germany

Welcome to Passport to Germany, the wine-education adventure where we travel across Germany without jet lag, lost luggage, or that one friend who “just wants to stop in every souvenir shop.” We’re here for the good stuff: crisp whites, sneaky-good reds, and the magical grape that can do it all—Riesling. In this program, you’ll learn how Germany’s cool climate, steep vineyards, and centuries of winemaking wizardry create wines that range from laser-beam dry to dessert-level sweet (and everything in between). We’ll decode German labels—because yes, they look like someone sneezed on a typewriter—and turn them into something you can actually use when you’re shopping, ordering, or trying to impress your friends at dinner. What we’ll cover (aka your itinerary): • The greatest hits of German wine regions: Mosel, Rheingau, Pfalz, Nahe, Rheinhessen (and a few more you’ll be able to pronounce by the end) • Riesling, plus the supporting cast: Silvaner, Pinot Blanc/Gris, Spätburgunder and friends • Sweetness levels, acidity, and the label terms that make people panic—made simple • Quality levels and what actually matters when you’re buying • Food pairings that go beyond bratwurst (though bratwurst is always welcome) Whether you’re brand new to German wine or you’ve been quietly hoarding Mosel bottles like a tasteful dragon, Passport to Germany will leave you with sharper instincts, a happier palate, and the confidence to order German wine without whispering, “I’ll just have… the white.”
